Odyssey girls Director of Coaching Chris McLain enters his eighth season with the Colgate University women’s soccer program and has been a big part of the program’s success over the past seven years.

McLain’s wealth of soccer knowledge and organization coupled with his extensive experience as both a player and a coach are just a few key elements that he adds to the staff. Since joining the Raiders, the team has strung together over 70 wins in less than seven years, including five championships. Colgate has made the Patriot League Tournament six times, winning two of them in 2004 and 2009 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

In the 2004 season, McLain helped guide the Raiders to a first- round win over Pac-10 Champions No.17 Arizona. McLain also helped the Women’s Soccer program attain some of the top recruiting classes in the country with the last incoming class ranked No.24 out of 322 Division I teams.

Since 1996, McLain has been working on the club, state, regional and national levels. He is the director of coaching and founder of Odyssey Sport N.Y. Soccer Club. The club has over 250 soccer players from all over upstate New York. McLain is also a head coach of the 97’s New York State West- Olympic Development Program team. He also works on the regional level as staff coach for U.S. Region I and has worked on the U.S. National Staff with the U18 U.S. Women’s National Team for a domestic training camp in Sunrise, Fla. This camp was highlighted with a couple of scrimmages against the U17 U.S. Women’s National Team, which was preparing for the 2008 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Prior to Colgate, McLain served two seasons as the head coach for the Eastern Nazarene women’s soccer team. While coaching at his Alma mater, he led the Crusaders to their most successful season in 2003, setting a school record with most wins in a season. McLain has also had significant experience as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at the University of New England, ME.

McLain played college soccer for one year at Point Loma Nazarene before transferring to Eastern Nazarene for his final three seasons. After college he continued to play semi-professionally with LASA powerhouse Portuguese Sports.

McLain earned his bachelor’s degree in general sciences with a minor in chemistry.
He also holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and a United States Soccer Federation “A” Coaching License.
