Odyssey Sport NY has been established since 2004 and over the last five
years we have grown exponentially. Throughout our growth we have
experienced growing pains but currently are so excited that our vision has
taken shape into our own facility this year. I do believe that 2009 will be
our best year yet.
In
2004 we brought Odyssey Sport from Southern Maine to the greater Oneida
area. It was our hope to give the young soccer players of this area a place
to take their game to the next level. We are a developmental based club.
We consider our coaches teachers of the game. We are focused on teaching
the technical aspects of the game to our young players and expanding the
tactical knowledge of our older
players while always pushing them to keep
their technical game sharp.
Most of our
teams train twice a week and play in one game per week. We put the most
focus on training, that is where they learn the most. Our coaches training
sessions look a lot like the game, we believe that to coach out of the game
is best way to teach. The game is the best motivator. Our coaches use the
games as a test, it is an easy way to determine if what you have been
teaching in training is being learned.
While
soccer is how we have gotten this club off the ground we now have
non-for-profit status and are very anxious to give back to this great
community who has been so generous in time and supplies donated. We have
grown in numbers and in revenue over the years but are hopeful that each
year we can scholarship more players than the year before. Already we have
a junior academy underway where our own coaches and current players are
doing Sunday afternoon clinics for approximately
forty
children, ages five to ten years old. It is our hope to grow the facility
to a place where the community members can use it as a meeting place, or for
after school programs, even college fairs. We have heard interest in adult
exercise classes and children?s birthday parties. The ways this space can
be used is unlimited.
Our
vision is a great one and we have been so lucky to have so many believe and
join us as we embark on this expansion.
