Cary Reifschneider Takes Top Honors at Colgate University ID Camp

Odyssey U19 boys team member, Cary Reifschneider, a junior at Oneida High School finished in first place Sunday, March 6th in a day-long competition as part of the Colgate University ID Camp, run by Northeast Elite ID Camps.  As more than 50 high school boys competed in 4 v. 4 and 6 v. 6 games, and a 3 v. 3 futsal tournament, points were awarded to each individual player based on goals, assists and wins and ties.  Cary helped his 3 v. 3 team to the tournament final, and was a consistent winner and goal scorer all day.

The ID camp is a one-day recruiting event run by Northeast Elite ID Camp Co-Director, Erik Ronning, the John W. Beyer Head Coach for Men’s Soccer at Colgate University.  Players from Texas, St. Louis, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Massachusetts and all over New York State were present, hoping to be spotted by the staff from Colgate, Hobart College, Union College, Sage College, Utica College, and SUNY Morrisville, as well as other college programs in attendance.  To be sure, Cary’s accomplishment in such a pressure-filled situation, with so many eyes upon him, and so many talented players (including several 2011 grads already committed to Colgate) is quite remarkable.

Colgate Assistant Coach and Odyssey Director of Coaching, Paul Stinson observed, “Cary has experienced tremendous improvement since he joined Odyssey, through hard work and a serious ‘gym rat’ mentality.  He plays at every opportunity, and while a relative newcomer to competitive soccer, his very athletic background (Cary is an ex-football player, among other sports) and work ethic have made it possible for him to compete on even footing with the top players in the area, region, and the nation.  It shows very well that highly talented and effective players can come from anywhere these days, whether Onieda, NY or the big metropolitan and suburban areas.  Cary is a great example of small town talent making a big splash.”

Odyssey applauds Cary’s success, and is proud to claim him as a member of the club.  The club would also like to recognize several other U19 boys who took part in Sunday’s action: Connor Lomonaco (U19 Boys Co-Captain), Sam Owens of Hamilton, Steven Keil of Canastota, Evan Cooley of Oneida, and Tyler Dunkle of Cazenovia (U16 Boys).
