U19 Boy’s Select Captains Odyssey Sport Soccer Club is proud to announce the election by the U19 boy’s team of Connor Lomonaco and Luke Dorsey as captains for the 2011 campaign. Connor and Luke have been a part of the OSSC program for 4 and 2 years, respectively, and will be charged with leading the boy’s side of the club as role models and mentors for all the boys, in all age groups. “Connor (Right)brings a sense of humor and outspoken confidence to this new role, and will be very much the public image of our team,” says coach Paul Stinson. “His rate of improvement has been impressively steady over the three years I have worked with him, and is a credit to his determination and enjoyment of the game. Many players would do well to emulate his efforts to improve as a player, and I look forward to introducing him to the younger boys as an example of the best-case scenario for an Odyssey player. Connor is a talented player and is well-respected by his peers for good reasons; his skill, work rate, competitiveness and personality combine to make his teammates better, and motivate them to match his own efforts.” “Luke (Left) is the quieter of the two captains-elect,” acknowledges coach Stinson, “but that will in no way reduce his impact on the club. He is one of the most fearsome players the club has ever had, and while he may not make much noise on the field, there is no mistaking his presence. He leads through his actions, and is arguably one of the finest players the boy’s side has, or has had in several years. Luke is a classy young man who will provide a different, but equally worthy example for his peers and colleagues on the various teams.” The U19 captainship is a role which carries responsibilities beyond the coin toss prior to the start of the game. These two young men are the leaders of the entire boy’s side, duty-bound to interact with all the boy’s teams, serve as examples of the very best of what the club is about. From simple team-building exercises like the U19 MLS pick-em contest, to appearing at training sessions with the younger teams to speak to the players and demonstrate not just what excellent soccer players look like, but what good people are like. Both will referee AYSO games to show commitment to helping young players learn how to play the game better, as well as to represent Odyssey in our local communities, and increase our visibility. Odyssey is excited to offer congratulations to Connor and Luke as they begin their new roles with the club, and anticipates seeing the club grow and prosper further due to their efforts. |
