U 14 Girls Team Page

The 2011 Odyssey Sport Soccer U13 girls team had fun packed and eventful 2010-2011 season.  They worked hard on mastering skills, improving fitness, and developing teamwork.  Coach Chris McClain used each training session to develop confidence, composure, and creativity by focusing on acquiring skills then challenging the girls to use these skills in the competitive environment.  They learned a ton this year, and made good friends doing it.

The winter program began in December 2010 with workouts twice a week at the Odyssey Training Center in Sherrill, NY.  The team came together as a mix of new and returning Odyssey club players.  Some played with the U12’s last year, some had been playing up with the U13’s last year, and some where new to our club.  All showed up with plenty of excitement to get to work and a strong desire to learn.  It didn’t take long to get into the groove of training and start seeing real improvements on the ball.

Winter indoor league at Rising Stars Center started in January.  They played in the U13 gold division with other area club teams.  They had some challenging matches that tested their resolve and plenty of opportunities to put their skills to the test.  The U13’s qualified for the division playoffs and made it all the way to the finals before falling in double overtime.  It was a well played match and a great way to top off a productive indoor season.

The team moved to the friendly confines of Otto Short Middle School for outdoor training beginning in April.  The soft grass was a welcome change after a long winter on the indoor turf.  They had a few weeks to prepare for the summer league where they played in the U13 division of CNYJSA.  They had a great outdoor season and finished with a record of 4-1-3.

Fathers Day weekend found the entire Odyssey Sport Soccer family in Burlington, VT for the Nordic Cup Tournament.  The U13’s played in the premier division of the tournament and experienced some very challenging opponents.  They played teams from Connecticut, Canada, and the eventual tournament champions from New Hampshire.  They earned a point in group play as well as lots of invaluable experience from playing at a very high level.

The club season finished at the end of July so players and coaches could turn their focus to training and playing for their schools.  Many of the U13’s will play for middle school soccer teams, and a few play for junior varsity or varsity sides.  They will gather again in December at the newly renovated Odyssey Training Center to resume training and mastering their skills as next years U14 team.
